Of Weather

This composition was written for a video installation based on documentation of a performative installation entitled Moving Image Work No.1: Of Weather (for Geoffrey Hendricks) in which large images of clouds were animated by teams of performers/art handlers in the radio transmission field in the Southdown Industrial Area near Toronto. The work was commissioned by the Blackwood Gallery UTM for the award-winning exhibition Work of Wind curated by Christine Shaw which took place in an active industrial zone in September 2018. Over the course of the ten-day run of the show, the teams assembled each day to perform a choreography of image movements responding to changes in the weather. This ballet of images was built upon standard filmmaking camera movements and editing techniques including dollies, zooms, tilts, wipes, and cuts. Of Weather touches upon themes of climate change, geoengineering, the mobile nature of the artworld, and our increasingly complex relationship with the weather. The score is primarily comprised of eight bowing figures inspired by each cloud image and is organized by which image is activated by the performers. To listen or purchase click here
