News: January 1, 2014

Requiem for a Glacier opens January 3rd, 2014 at the Oxygen Art Centre in Nelson, BC. The exhibition runs until February 8th. The opening is from 7-9pm on the 3rd. There will be an artist talk by Paul Walde in January 4th at 4pm.

Paul Walde’s work Interdeterminacy (for John Cage) is part of the exhibition Paradox at the Legacy Art Galleries in Victoria, BC. The exhibition opened October 31st and runs until January 11th.

On December 1st Paul Walde performed with Experimental Music Unit at the Legacy Gallery. The debut concert by the ensemble was entitled Music for Mycologists and featured a performance of Interdeterminacy as well as works by Tina Pearson, John Cage and Vaclav Halek. Works form this performance are being recorded for an upcoming release.

The installation version of Requiem for a Glacier debuts at the Langham Art Gallery in Kaslo, BC October 12th and runs until November 24th.

Fictive Realities, an exhibition at the Richmond Art Gallery curated by Paul Walde featuring new works by Lee Henderson, Michelle Gay, Doug Jarvis, Peter Morin and Steve Lyons runs until November 3rd.

On July 27th the Requiem Volunteer Orchestra and Chorus performed Paul Walde’s Requiem for a Glacier upon the Farnham Glacier.

News: July 15, 2013

Dress rehearsals for Requiem for a Glacier will be open to the public on Thursday July 25th at 6:30 and 8:30 pm at the Nelson United Church in Nelson British Columbia. Tickets are $20 or $15 for students and seniors and are available at www.capitoltheatre.bc.ca . These performances are to help raise funds to bring a crew of 100 performers, sherpas, videographers and sound engineers to the site-specific sound performance that will take place on a glacier near Invermere, BC the weekend of July 27-28th.

Audio Lodge’s new exhibition Land Water Interface opened on July 10th at Common Ground. The exhibition features new works created during their recent residency at Pelee Island. The gallery is located at 3277 Sandwich Street in Windsor Ontario Canada, and the show runs until July 24th.

Rehearsals for Paul Walde’s Requiem for a Glacier begin June 4th. Currently in pre-production, Requiem for a Glacier, is a site specific sound performance that will take place near Invermere, British Columbia the weekend of July 27-28th.

If you are interested in participating, the Requiem for a Glacier production team is currently seeking volunteers for the orchestra, choir, crew, catering, volunteer coordination, publicist, mountaineering team, drivers, and sponsorship. Paul Walde will be exhibiting new work including The Nature of Silence in the exhibition NOW ART as part of The Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Victoria opening June 5th.

Audio Lodge presented Downtown as part of the Sweet Magic London micro-festival that opened May 9th at Playground in London, Ontario.

Paul Walde will be performing John Cage’s Lecture On the Weather at the Music Gallery on Saturday October 27th in Toronto. Performers include: Pauline Oliveros, Alex Waterman, Rick Sacks, Linda Smith, Ryan Scott, Jennifer Waring, Norbert Palej, Morris Palter, Du Yun,, David Schotzko, Patricia O’Callaghan and Karol Czarny. This performance is part of The Future of John Cage Credo conference at the University of Toronto. Paul Walde will also be presenting a new work, Interdeterminacy, which will be installed for the duration of the conference. On Sunday the work which is a largescale graphic notation made of mushroom spores will be performed and Walde will also present a paper on the work.

A suite of four new sound works entitled Music for Natural History by Paul Walde and Tina Pearson will debut at the Royal British Columbia Museum as part of the program Site and Sound on April 28th, 2012.

Paul Walde’s Drift, Snow Drift and three new works including A Snowball’s Chance (shown here) will be featured in the exhibition Polar Shift at Museum London opening April 20th and running until July 8th, 2012.

Audio Lodge’s Downtown will be included in the exhibition, broadcast and forthcoming CD release of The Centre for Art Tapes‘ Broadcasting for Reels: Sounds (Extra)Ordinary Project curated by Chris Myhr and featuring the work of: John Abram, Marla Hlady, Francisco Lopez, Rachel Woolmore-Goodwin and John Wynne; as well as collaborative work from Matt Rogalsky and Laura Cameron. The exhibition opens on Wednesday, February 01, 2012 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Alderney Landing, 2 Ochterloney Street, Dartmouth NS, and the broadcast will be featured on on CKDU 88.1 FM, CJSF(Burnaby), CFBX (Kamloops), CIVL (Abbotsford), CKXU (Lethbridge) and CFUV (Victoria) on February 1st 2012.

Paul Walde will be developing a new expanded installation version of Snow Drift for the Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound in Kitchner, Ontario. The festival runs from April 27 to May 1, 2011. The installation will be in the Artery Gallery at 156 King Street West. Walde will also be speaking at the Open Ears Symposium on Thursday, April 28th at 2:30PM on the panel entitled Appropriation 2.0 The Pop-Politic with Vicki Bennett, Marc Couroux, John Oswald and Nicole Lizée.

Musicworks magazine and CD launch at Aeolian Hall on Wednesday March 30th at 7PM, featuring performances of the Northern Symphony string quartet score by Katie Bestvater (cello), Jordan Clayton (violin), Tori Grigg (violin), and Fil Stasiak (double bass), with remixes and interpretations of the score by A Priori, Cailen Dye, and Paul Walde with additional guests to be announced. There will also be a performance by the sound art collective Audio Lodge of which Walde is a member. The magazine has a feature length article on the audio visual work of Paul Walde and his work with Audio Lodge. The CD features the work of Walde and Audio Lodge.

The Aeolian Hall is located at 795 Dundas Street in London Ontario.

Paul Walde’s painting Mix Translation I is featured in the exhibition Searching for Tom tracing the work and influence of Canadian painter Tom Thomson (1877-1917) at The Museum in Kitchener Ontario opening Thursday February 3rd. Curated by Virginia Eichhorn other artists’ work in the exhibition include: Diana Thorneycroft, Brian Burnett, General Idea, Homer Watson, Alan Harding MacKay, Fred Haines, Ann Savage, Emily Carr, all members the Group of Seven along with Tom Thomson.

Audio Lodge debuts Time Transposition 1010 a twenty-four hour long sound installation at University College on the campus of the University of Western Ontario as part of the exhibition Mapping Medievalism curated by Dr. Katheryn Brush. The installation can be heard 24hrs a day from October 22nd until November 5th, 2010. The opening reception is at the McIntosh Gallery at 7:30 PM on the 22nd.

Paul Walde curates LOLA 2010: Conflict II Resolution, featuring public art projects by Yoko Ono, Jason McLean, Troy David Ouellette, Stephen Andrews, Anna Wieselgren, Jamelie Hassan, Kevin Rodgers, James Kirkpatrick, Todd Tremeer, Tony Conrad, Janet Morton, Barb Hunt, and Anitra Hamilton, with indoor exhibitions by Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky, William Basinski and Andrew Forster.

The festival officially runs September 16, 17, 18 and 19, with billboards and exhibitions throughout the month of September.
